Routing Modes

Routing modes control which traffic goes through GigaTap and how other apps on your device see the connection.

Available modes

  • TUN / full-device VPN: the default mode for routing device traffic through the VPN.
  • System proxy: uses the operating system proxy setting where supported.
  • Local proxy: exposes a local proxy endpoint for apps that can be configured manually.
  • LAN sharing: shares the connection to other devices on your local network.
  • Rule-based / geo split routing: routes selected traffic through the VPN while allowing other traffic to use the normal network.

How to choose

Use TUN / full-device VPN for the simplest setup. Use system proxy or local proxy when a specific app needs proxy settings. Use LAN sharing only on networks and devices you control. Use split routing when you intentionally want only selected traffic to use GigaTap.

How to change mode

  1. Disconnect the VPN if the app asks you to.
  2. Open routing settings.
  3. Select the routing mode.
  4. Connect again and verify IP/DNS behavior.
  5. If a mode behaves unexpectedly, return to TUN / full-device VPN and run Diagnostics.
